McCain Foods, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of frozen French fries and potato specialties, had a serious aeration problem in one of their UK wastewater treatment plants; seven out of thirteen surface aerators were malfunctioning.
Challenge
The challenge was to urgently supply additional oxygen to the aerobic reactor without interfering with the existing treatment process.
Solution
Mapal installed six Retrievable Floating Fine Bubble aeration units, designed to supply a maximum oxygen transfer rate (AOTR) of 1,200 kgO2/day, plus a blower, on a Rental basis. The units were installed and operated alongside the existing surface aerators, in a full live reactor with no interruption to the treatment process.
Results
Oxygen levels increased to the required level. The client expressed his satisfaction by extending the initial rental period until Mapal’s aeration system would be purchased on a permanent basis.
