Aeration Retrofit in a Rounded Aeration Tank in Stanbridgeford STW with Mapal’s Floating Fine Bubble Aeration System
The project took place in a rounded aeration tank with a daily flow rate of 3,400 m3/hr, in Stanbridgeford STW.
Challenge
Stanbridgeford STW was experiencing high energy costs, due to the aeration tank’s inefficient aeration system. Mapal’s challenge was to conduct an aeration retrofit while keeping the reactor in operation, and to reduce the energy expenditure.
Solution
Mapal’s solution was to install six Floating Fine Bubble aeration units, with an air-flow rate of 2,500 Nm3/hr, three air blowers, and a manifold. The units were installed with a crane in a full, live reactor. As a result, there was no interruption to the treatment process during the installation, and no operational risks – the existing jet aeration system remained in operational condition as a standby system.
Results
Following Mapal’s installation, Stanbridgeford STW withstood the regulations with significant energy savings.
"We’re pleased with the results and happy that significant energy savings will be delivered, thanks to innovation and collaboration between Anglian Water and the supply chain.”
